The National Retail Federation, in response to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address this week, agrees the economy is "sound," and said the top priority is for Congress to "keep the economy moving forward."
"Rebuilding the nation's crumbling infrastructure, modernizing North American trade, advancing commonsense immigration reform, protecting consumer privacy, fostering innovation and promoting workforce development are all areas where Republicans and Democrats can reach across the aisle and get things done — while keeping the government's lights on," stated a release issued by NRF.
The retail industry organization applauded Trump on efforts to restore balanced trade relationships and hopes the U.S. and China will "avoid further escalation."
"The state of the union is indeed strong, and we have an opportunity to make it even stronger. Let's take it," stated the release.
In its annual economic forecast, released prior to the address, NRF projected retail sales this year will increase between 3.8 percent and 4.4 percent.
