Consumers no longer just register for baby showers and weddings — they're also making lists for their birthday and graduation gifts. So why shouldn't presidential candidates get on board? President Obama is no stranger to the concept. His campaign recently launched its own "event registry" in hopes of raising campaign funds.
Instead of brides-to-be scanning toasters and towels, users sign up with Obama's event registry, which asks friends and relatives to give money to the President's campaign in lieu of gifts. It's not just for weddings; anyone from birthday boys to new graduates can opt for an Obama registry.
Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up? Let your friends know how important this election is to you—register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift. It's a great way to support the President on your big day. Plus, it's a gift that we can all appreciate—and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl.
Of course, the idea is already taking heat; CBS News calls it a fundraising ploy and has received multiple comments from viewers calling it "pathetic" and "sad." Likewise, comments on the blog post announcing the registry are skewing negative.
