Omnichannel still in infancy stage, reveals research

December 14, 2018

While there's lot of activity when it comes to retailers and expanding delivery options, the "buy online, pick up in store" (BOPIS) isn't taking deep root as many may think.

An OrderDynamics study claims just 27.5 percent of U.S. retailers are offering customers the BOPIS service.

Additional findings include:
•    39.1 percent of omnichannel retailers offer basic, active inventory visibility.
•    24.7 percent of all retailers provide free return shipping.
•    42.1 percent of U.S. retailers offer BORIS (Buy Online Return In-Store).
•    31.9 percent of omnichannel retailers accept Instagram purchases.

"E-commerce is deployed well throughout the U.S. retail market, but this research shows omnichannel capabilities continue to mature," said Nick McLean, CEO, OrderDynamics, in the release. "As retailers start to take advantage of faster, standardized and much less expensive point solutions, this profile will shift."
