PetSmart, as of the fiscal quarter ending this past May, now has an additional 18 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and expects to open more as the year comes to a close. In 2016, the retailer opened 70 new stores.
"We continue to execute our real estate strategy to engage new customers and improve our competitive position," Brian Amkraut, executive vice president of real estate, strategy, store operations and services for PetSmart, said in a press release. "Expanding our retail footprint is a key component of PetSmart's omnichannel strategy focused on convenience, including same-day and scheduled at-home delivery, as well as the popular buy online/pick up in store option."
PetSmart operates 1,542 stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, as well as 205 in-store PetSmart PetsHotel dog and cat boarding facilities.
