Report: AI will disrupt US job market

Those fearing that automation will put the U.S. worker out to pasture won't like the insight from a Brookings Institution report that claims 25 percent of U.S. jobs will be disrupted by artificial intelligence technology.

The AI wave will drive job task automation, according to a MarketWatch report on the data, and right now 36 million Americans are working in jobs that have "high exposure" to automation.

Most impacted are foodservice employees, including cooks and wait staff, as well as clerical staff and truck drivers.

Mark Muro, a senior fellow at Brookings and lead author of the report, told MarketWatch the timeline for the AI automation wave could be anywhere from a few years to 20 years.
