A patent filing reveals Amazon may be building a distribution hub — a tower resembling a beehive — for busy metro areas "designed to accommodate landing and takeoff of unmanned aerial vehicles."
The news, from a New York Post report, comes as retailers are battling hard to deliver products faster and quicker than ever as delivery is now as important as price for the online consumer. Amazon conducted its first-ever drone delivery late last year in the U.K.
The hubs would be tower facilities with "many levels," according to the report, with drones taking leave from several areas in the buildings. The buildings would look very much like a beehive, according to proposed drawings in the patent filing.
