Retailers not hiring big for holiday season

This year may be the retail industry's lowest figure when it comes to hiring for the holiday season in over 15 years.

A Challenger, Gray and Christmas report predicts 410,000 seasonal workers will be hired, according to a CNN report.

The report from Challenger did note the hiring figure could change due to consumer demands this holiday buying season.

In late September Target announced it was planning to hire 100,000 and Macy's was onboarding 38,000 workers — the latter a dip from 41,000 hired in 2022.

Kroger hasn't specified a set hiring target except for "thousands," and Bath and Body Works will be hiring 32,500 workers. Gift and flower retailer 1-800-Flowers expects to hire on 8,000, the same as in 2022.
