Two more retailers have joined the growing list of companies wanting to snag some of the revenue being spent on at-home, on-demand entertainment: Reuters reports that Sears has secured a deal with digital media provider Sonic Solutions to offer on-demand movies and television shows, to be delivered to Internet-connected TVs, Blu-ray players and mobile phones.
Sonic previously announced similar deals with Blockbuster and Best Buy.
"This is an opportunity for Sears to get their consumers up and running with digital content, and offset what is happening as consumers move from physical media to digital delivery," said Mark Ely, executive vice president of strategy for Sonic.
Most of the devices that the Sonic platform supports are already available at Sears. But the company said that no more than five percent of consumers that have devices compatible with on-demand media have used the feature.
