Consumers are increasingly turning to their mobile device when it comes to holiday shopping online and in the store. The number of shoppers using a smartphone for online purchase has increased 8% since last year, and 45% are using mobile devices to shop all the time, compared to using a desktop.

Those are top findings of AdColony's Holiday Shopping Survey on consumer habits and preferences. The study also revealed consumers are not just buying for themselves but 81% have purchased a gift for someone else using a mobile device.

Shoppers are focused on clothes and home goods mostly when mobile shopping and half of those polled have never purchased an item on the mobile device directly from an ad. However, 71% said they would if the item seemed relevant.

A majority of those polled, 61%, have used the mobile device while shopping in a store with product research as the top function, followed by access to a store discount or coupon.
