Socket Mobile, a provider of mobile productivity solutions, is working with LightSpeed, a retail technology company, to design "Personalized selling with inventory scanning, wireless payments and intuitive retail tools for Mac OS(R) and iOS," according to a company press release.
The collaboration pairs the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner Series 7 barcode scanners with the LightSpeed for iPad application. The application, which has already generated thousands of downloads since its release, allows retailers to quickly scan items to check inventory, show more detail, and complete point-of-sale transactions without ever leaving the customers' side, Dax Dasilva, founder and chief executive officer of LightSpeed, said in the release.
"The solution will empower retailers to spend more time engaging customers, eliminate lengthy checkout lines, and ultimately, lead to more sales," he said.
The CHS 7Ci — certified for the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch — is the newest in Socket's line of Bluetooth cordless handheld barcode scanners. Positioned at a lower price point than other scanners in the series, the CHS 7Ci is a 1D imager-based linear barcode reader that can decode both printed barcodes and barcodes displayed on device screens, said Mike Gifford, executive vice president at Socket Mobile.
"The CHS 7Ci is ideal for the retail industry," he said. "Traditionally, sales associates were tied to POS stations once a transaction required scanning, forcing customers to come to them when ready to make a purchase or ask about inventory. With robust applications like LightSpeed for iPad, the Bluetooth-enabled CHS 7Ci allows retailers to take the transaction to the customer, allowing an increase in customer satisfaction and ultimately, an increase in sales."
Socket also offers the CHS 7Xi, an Apple certified 2D barcode scanner. In addition to Apple iOS, the CHS 7Ci and 7Xi are also compatible with the Android, BlackBerry and Windows operating systems. Developers who want to customize an iOS application for the CHS 7Ci must use version 10.0.8 or later of the SocketScan 10 SDK.
