Robotics pioneer Boston Dynamics, owned by Google's Alphabet Inc., is being acquired by SoftBank Group Corp.
The move, according to SoftBank Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son, is all about advancing robotic technology and driving what he calls the "information revolution."
"Today, there are many issues we still cannot solve by ourselves with human capabilities,” he stated in a press release.
Boston Dynamics CEO and Founder Marc Raibert said his company shares SoftBank's belief that robotic advancement will benefit humanity.
"We look forward to working with SoftBank in our mission to push the boundaries of what advanced robots can do and to create useful applications in a smarter and more connected world," he said in the release.
