Staples chief taking leave, veteran leader hired on as interim

Ron Sargent, current Staples CEO, is leaving the post next week after being at the retailer’s helm for 14 years.

Shira Goodman will take on the role as interim chief while the company launches an executive search for a new leader.

The executive shuffle comes on the heels of Staples' failed move to acquire Office Depot, as noted in a Wall Street Journal article.

The move is "both reflective of Ron’s desire to step down and right for the company. Today's announcement is the culmination of discussions that have been going on for some time," Staples told the WSJ.
