Come 2023 grocery shoppers will pay more for delivery and the days of free delivery will end.

Those are top predictions of grocer trends from Shelf Engine, a grocery AI provider, which polled experts on developments coming in the new year. It released its findings in a report, "The Aisle Ahead: Shelf Engine Grocery Outlook."

Consumers, facing higher prices, will expand grocery discovery to club stores and discount stores to make the most of the budgets, according to a press release on the findings.

The report also predicts the divide between small and big chains will get wider and smaller grocers will lean more into fresh and local products and deliver a great customer experience.

The data also predicts grocers will be tapping technology to solve issues such as rising costs and dealing with a labor shortage.
