Uber updates driver app to boost experience

Just about six months after marking down pricing for customers in more than a few cities, Uber is updating its app with enhanced features for its drivers.

The goal is to make the driving experience easier and more lucrative, according to a Bloomberg report, and may represent an olive branch of sorts to drivers given the fare cuts earlier this year.

The app will now let drivers search for cheaper gas options and access discounts when they're an Uber customer. It will also allow them to pause job requests during shift and enter destination to help connect them with riders seeking the same destination or location.

Yet the app enhancements aren’t going far enough, says one industry watcher.

"They're definitely going to add up to slowly benefiting drivers," industry blogger Harry Campbell told Bloomberg. "These are features, though, that I think make a lot of sense for drivers but also Uber. I call them low-hanging fruit."
