February 11, 2014

Helen Dickinson, the director of the British Retail Consortium, told United Press International today that online shopping is fundamentally changing the retail business, and will continue to do so.

"There's no doubt that online is driving structural change within the sector and retailers will continue to invest heavily to provide the seamless experience between channels that today's shoppers demand," she said.

According to the report, online sales of non-food items in the U.K. rose 19 percent over January of last year. Purchases made online represented 17 percent of all retail sales in the U.K., up from 16 percent last year.
