Display & Design Ideas: In less than a dozen words, Les Mandelbaum, president and co-founder of Toronto-based home goods retailer Umbra, sums up the design and construction process for the company's first retail flagship: "We gutted it, framed it in pink plastic, and lit it up." The result is a 7,000-sq.-ft. store at 165 John St. in downtown Toronto showcasing representative products that form the company's encompassing collection of necessities, accessories and purely decorative products for the home and small office.
