Upcoming Amazon program turns paperbacks into e-books

Amazon will soon allow owners of paperback books (purchased via Amazon between 1995 and now) to purchase the e-book version of the title for $2.99 or less. According to a post on nbcnews.com, the program will launch in October and be part of the Kindle Library, readable on all devices that run Kindle apps.

The catch? The publisher of the paperback must agree to participate. Amazon said more than 10,000 books are already in the program.

"This is an easy choice for publishers and authors who will now be able to earn more from each book they publish," Amazon's VP of Kindle Content, Russ Grandinetti, said in a press release.
