Walmart, Amazon and Costco are the top three retailers, respectively, in the National Retail Federation's annual list of Top 100 Retailers which ranks the industry's largest companies according to 2024 U.S. sales.

The three retailers, which landed first, second and third respectively, represent a "diverse group," according to NRF Executive Director of Research Mark Matthews said in a release on the report which was compiled by Kantar.

Walmart continues to top the list with 2024 U.S. retail sales of $568.70 billion, representing 7% growth for the retailer. Amazon retained its No. 2 spot with U.S. sales of $273.66 billion, followed by Costco Wholesale ($183.05 billion), The Kroger Co. ($150.79 billion) and The Home Depot ($148.21 billion) landed in fourth and fifth spots respectively.

While the list of companies in the top 13 remained the same as last year, Target dropped from No. 7 to No. 8, while Boots Alliance moved up a spot to No. 7.

"As with recent years, I would say you could take last year's list and just flip it over for 2025," Kantar Senior Vice President of Global Insights and Technology David Marcotte said in the release. "While the companies at the top of the list not only reflect those with the strongest retail sales, they are also a reflection of those that have remained nimble to a changing landscape from the impacts of trade policy and shifting consumer habits."

Rite Aid which went down on the list from No. 29 in 2024 to No. 40. PetSmart (No. 52) has seen a 1% increase in U.S. retail sales and a 3% decrease in U.S. stores, while Petco (No. 75) experienced a 2% decrease in U.S. retail sales and a 2% drop in U.S. stores.
