Walmart is increasing its Sam's Club membership fees, for both tiers, come Oct. 17.
The annual fee, now $45, will become $50 for club members and the plus membership cost will rise from $100 to $110, according to a Yahoo/AOL Finance report.
It's been nine years since Walmart increased the club fee and it's the first increase for the plus membership since that tier was launched 23 years ago.
"We are mindful of the financial pressure on wallets right now," Kath McLay, president and CEO of Sam's Club, stated in a letter to club members regarding the pricing change.
Current members who renew will not pay the increased fee.
The news comes at a time when membership programs are increasing fees to cover increased costs and are still wrestling with COVID-19 challenges such as supply chain issues as well as current inflation.
As Retail Customer Experience reported last week Walmart is mulling the creation of a social media influencer platform. Walmart has filed trademark applications for two platform names, Walmart Creator and Walmart Creator Collective, according to a Reuters report.
