Walmart buys mobile company built in Aussie garage

November 13, 2011

Walmart has bought Grabble, a mobile shopping technology start-up company created in an Australian garage.

Stuart Argue, 29, and Anthony Marcar, 27, founded the company that allows retailers to take advantage of the smartphone revolution through a point-of-service app, last year, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Argue and Marcar plan to move to Silicon Valley to join the WalmartLabs team, the digital arm of Walmart.

"We're excited about seeing our passion play out on a large stage and especially look forward to working with the team at Walmart," they told the newspaper, which said the pair had previously agreed to respond to some questions but are now refusing to even talk about how their idea was formed or the problem it solved, directing all requests for comment to a PR agency.

"Walmart are being very careful around publicity so they've asked us to forward all media inquiries on to one of the PR people," said Marcar.

The value of the deal has not been revealed.
