For the fourth year straight Walmart is closing stores for the Thanksgiving holiday this year.

The retailer first closed stores on the November holiday in 2020 citing the need to give a break to essential staff working hard in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Walmart announced this year's closure via a video post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

CEO John Furner called the holiday "a special day during a very busy season," and a day to be spent "at home with family and loved ones."

As of last week it was the first major retailer to declare stores will be closed for the turkey celebration. In past years many retailers have done the same including Best Buy, Target and Kohls.
