According to ProgressiveGrocer.com via FinancialTime.com, Walmart plans to open a miniature version of its Supercenter stores in the Los Angeles area. The smaller store is among the first of a new breed of smaller stores Walmart hopes can deliver a new phase of U.S. growth.
Walmart has leased a 75,000-square-foot location in Torrance, Calif., that had been occupied by Mervyn’s, a regional department store chain that went bankrupt in 2008, and is investigating a second, similarly-sized site in San Diego.
