Watchfire Signs' display highlights Hurricane Florence activity in North Carolina

September 14, 2018

An outdoor Watchfire Signs display in Greensboro, North Carolina, is currently displaying tracking information on Hurricane Florence. The 16-millimeter sign measures 7 by 15 feet and is displaying an estimate of when the hurricane will make landfall, according to an announcement.

Watchfire Signs recommends leaving displays uncovered during hurricanes, as covering the face can prevent ventilation. It also recommends leaving outdoor displays powered on, even during bad weather.

"When the internal electronic components are powered up, enough heat will be generated to prevent condensation from forming inside the cabinet, providing that power is not disrupted for an extended period of time. Leaving the sign powered on also means that important public safety announcements can be sent to the sign remotely as long as there is power and internet access at the site," the company said in a statement.
