Wegmans has deployed facial recognition cameras in a "small fraction" of stores to boost security at locations with elevated risks.
The company declined to identify which stores now have the facial recognition technology, according to a WXXI News report.
"We put a great deal of time and thought into each store's security program. For security and safety purposes, we do not get into the specific measures used at each store," Wegmans spokesperson Tracy Van Auker told the news outlet.
A statement from the company to the news outlet stated it uses camera to "identify individuals who pose a risk to our people, customers or operation."
