Fun Fact Thursday: July 4th is more than just beer and BBQ

June 30, 2016 by Judy Mottl — Editor, RetailCustomerExperience.com & DigitalSignageToday.com

So as the biggest summer holiday bodes ahead, we at Networld Media Group, parent of Retail Customer Experience and many other engaging B2B news sites, are aiming to have some fun and kicking the three-day holiday weekend off a bit early with a breezy story on fun facts about the patriotic holiday.

First off, we want to thank WalletHub as they put together a great infographic citing facts and the graphic has much more than we’re sharing here so be sure to check it out.

These are great conversation starters for those awkward neighborhood barbeques.

  • We Americans love our hotdogs — we eat 150 million on Independence Day.
  • More than two thirds of Americans barbeque on the holiday, cooking up close to 900 million pounds of beef and chicken.
  • Nearly half of us will sit or stand watching a fireworks show at some point.
  • And most will likely have some sort of brew in hand as the holiday is the top beer imbibing time of the year.
  • On that note, and of little surprise, 67 percent of firework injuries happen during July.
  • Back in the day (like July 1776) there were 2.5 million U.S. residents.
  • Nearly 70 percent of us own a flag and fly it on the holiday.
  • Grocers love the holiday weekend given consumers spend $6.7 billion in food.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, safe and fun holiday.
