Comedian John Hodgman – one of the funniest people on the planet, if you ask me – was on The Daily Show the other night, discussing the demise of bookstores and how retailers can change their fortunes lest they end up on the Big Remainder Table in the Sky.
His first suggestion? Recreate the downloading experience, in the store. Get rid of the bookshelves and replace them with "beautiful, well-appointed downloading pods." Hmm ...
