A.C. Moore shuttering stores, Michaels moving into some

November 26, 2019

Arts and crafts supply seller, A.C. Moore, will close its 145 stores, with some locations being taken over by another craft retailer, Michaels, which will also buy A.C. Moore's intellectual property and distribution center. The news comes within days of Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping weekends for retailers and was announced by parent company, Nicole Crafts, according to a Newsday report.

The arts and craft retailer stopped online orders as of Monday, noted the report.

"For over 30 years, our stores have been servicing the creative community with a vast selection of art and craft materials, with one common focus, the customer," A.C. Moore CEO Anthony Piperno said in the Newsday report. "Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today's environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a national level."

Michaels is the nation's biggest  arts and crafts chain with more than 1,200 stores.
