ADT unveils pinless security tags that don't pierce merchandise

October 27, 2009

ADT Security Services announced the availability of its Sensormatic UltraLite PT, a pinless anti-shoplifting tag. The tag is designed to protect jeans, leather goods, shoes and handbags, which can be difficult to protect with traditional anti-theft tags that pierce the material.

In a press release, the company noted that the tags "enhance the customer shopping experience by allowing retailers to openly display items for easy access by the consumer."

The UltraLite PT tags use an adjustable spring-loaded metal clip which compresses onto the merchandise. The seal is tight enough, according to the company, that it cannot be removed without damaging the item.

"It can be more difficult to place anti-theft devices on certain merchandise. This pinless tag is a great way for retailers to help limit losses while offering the same visual deterrent as more traditional anti-shoplifting tags," said Jeff Bean, vice president, retail sales and operations for ADT. "The more options we give our retailers the more effectively they can protect their merchandise and limit losses while better serving their customers."
