In a move to deepen its footprint within the health care industry Amazon has launched a Alexa-based physician service.

The mega omnichannel retailer is partnering with telemedicine provider Teladoc Health on the voice-activate virtual care program, according to a New York Post report.

"Telehealth now is something that patients have gotten used to and may come to expect as an option for their care," Lori Uscher-Pines, a senior policy researcher with Rand Corp, told the news outlet. "(Before) the pandemic, there might not have been this much awareness that this was a service that was available."

Amazon previously launched a prescription drug program.

The Alexa doctor service will cost $75 per request if there is no insurance coverage.
