Amazon is expanding the use of smart glasses to its delivery drivers to reduce smartphone reliance in the last leg of the delivery journey.
The wearable technology uses computer vision, AI and cameras, and gives drivers walking directions, helps with locating packages and identifies potential hazards, according to a Seeking Alpha report.
Hundreds of delivery workers have been testing the glasses for the past year and a half and have completed 275,000 deliveries using the smart glasses.
Amazon will put 5,000 more devices in the hands of drivers with the goal of 20,000 in play by the end of 2027, according to the report.
The smart glasses use Amazon's precision geospatial technology that gives directions and insight when dealing with complex locations such as apartment buildings. Drivers are not required to use the glasses, which support a person's prescription requirements.
