Amazon India tapping VR kiosks to promote Prime Day products

Amazon India will offer virtual reality kiosks in 10 locations to promote Prime Day next week, according to Venture Beat.

Subbu Palaniappan, growth chief for Amazon Prime India, said the kiosks will promote Prime Day, July 16, a 36-hour sale event exclusively for Amazon Prime members. The kiosks are meant to attract customers at existing brick-and-mortar retail stores.

The kiosks will feature Oculus Rift headsets and Touch controllers, and will allow users to interact in 3D with the items on sale during the Prime Day event. Users will be able to view products up close or life-size, and will be able to place clothes and jewelry on holographic models.

The VR headsets will also provide previews of seven new Amazon Prime Video titles that debut this week in India. The kiosks will be open through July 17 when Prime Day concludes, although the sale will be exclusive to Prime customers.
