Amazon phone to compete with Apple, Android devices

Amazon is developing a smartphone to compete with Apple's iPhone and devices running on Google's Android platform, according to Bloomberg News, which also reported that the online retail giant has partnered on the project with Foxconn International Holdings Ltd., a Chinese mobile-phone manufacturer.

Amazon is trying to acquire patents covering wireless technology to help it defend against allegations of infringement, said unnamed sources in the Bloomberg story.
