Amazon setting up model 'smart' homes for smart device experience
The best place to try out a new technology or product is where it's going to be used and Amazon apparently believes that's the case with its smart home technology product line.
The mega omnichannel player is setting up model smart homes around the U.S. where consumers can experience first-hand how its voice assistant device technology, Alexa, can prove useful in the home environment.
It is partnering with Lennar Corp. to convert the home construction company’s model homes into defacto Alexa showrooms, according to a New York Post report. Consumers will be able to ask Alexa to dim light, turn on the television and place product orders.
"Today, the choices open to customers are, you can go to a brick-and-mortar store and you can see devices on demo tables. You go online and do your research. But you fundamentally are left to imagine what an integrated home would look like," Nish Lathia, general manager of Amazon Services, told the Post.
