Amazon sued over voice tech recording feature

June 14, 2019

Two class action lawsuits have been filed against Amazon regarding its Alexa voice technology, alleging the device is recording and storing children’s voices without parental knowledge or consent.

The legal action, according to a New York Post report, also claims the voice assistant is in violation of eight state statutes relating to allowable oral communication recordings with consent of participating persons.

The news comes at a time when voice assistants, such as Amazon's Echo Dot, are increasingly being used as a way to interact and communicate with customers and shoppers.

The suits have been filed in a federal court in Seattle and in a state court in Los Angeles, according to the report.
