Amy Poehler brings the funny to Best Buy Super Bowl ad

January 23, 2013

Best Buy is hoping Amy Poehler makes a big score during her Super Bowl commercial for the electronics retailer. According to an article on latimes.com, Poehler's Best Buy spot will run during the first quarter of the big game.

"Amy is this comedic everyperson who can make things simple," said Scott Durchslag, president of Best Buy's online and global e-commerce. "And Best Buy is trying to accomplish the same thing — making technology simple."

Best Buy could be referring to simpler times when it wasn't struggling to compete with online rivals, the article reported. For the third quarter of 2012, the company reported a loss of $10 million, compared to a profit of $156 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

And apparently, Poehler had free reign over the comedic direction of the ad.

"She had a lot of creative control," the Associated Press quoted Durchslag as saying, in the article. "And I'm really glad we did it that way because we got to a place we never could have gotten to on our own."
