Google is down one artificial intelligence guru thanks to Apple.
John Giannandrea, formerly Google's chief of search and AI, is leaving to head up Apple's machine learning and AI strategy, according to a New York Times report.
The news comes as the top titans of tech, including Facebook, scramble to boost AI development and research given consumer interest in voice assistant technology and devices tapping AI, as well as drive deeper personalization within the customer experience.
The 53-year-old Giannandrea was chief technology officer for Metaweb, a knowledge database, which was purchased by Google in 2010.
