Apple is launching an update to its retail store iOS app to allow consumers to use self-checkout to buy accessories and other shelf-stocked items at the company's retail stores.
According to macrumors, self-checkout purchases will be charged via the Apple Store app to the customer's iTunes Store account. The platform should be ready by Nov. 3.
Customers who have made a purchase through self-checkout will show an emailed receipt to any employee, confirming their purchase. Store employees will be watching shoppers to make sure they don't walk out with unpaid merchandise.
High-end products such as Macs, iPhones and iPods will still be kept in the stockroom, ensuring that customers buying them will need assistance from store employees. Customers, however, can buy accessories, cases and other products stocked directly on the sales floor using EasyPay devices.
Apple is also enhancing its online store to allow a single order of multiple items to be routed to different shipping addresses, according to macrumors.
