Apple's Union Square store is anything but square when it comes to design

May 24, 2016

It took two years but Apple's newly designed Union Square store in San Francisco is open for business and reflects the long-admired Apple design and flair.

The open areas, wide glass doors and color scheme are exactly what Apple fans have come to expect when visiting the retailer’s storefronts and waiting for support help at the Genius Bar (now called a Genius Grove), according to a Fast Company report. It's also a store design and experience that would have met the expectations of the company's noted longtime leader and current chief.

"It's the kind of huge leap forward Steve Jobs loved to see, even if this one remakes the retail blueprint he and Ron Johnson established over a decade ago. Apple is one of those companies that believes that everything that touches the consumer represents the company. So the design of this new store isn't just a design: It's a statement about the philosophy and ambitions of Tim Cook's Apple," Fast company said in the report.

The store is one of the first major projects for Angela Ahrendts, a former Burberry innovation leader, who has been quietly refreshing and revamping Apple's retail sites since being hired over two years ago.

The Union Square location, noted by SF Gate, even boasts live trees (hence the support 'grove' area), which will play into providing a quiet and serene setting.
