Best Buy CEO Jason Bonfig, slated to take the helm from current chief Corie Barry this coming fall, is focused on enhancing the customer experience and the strategy features a small-format store strategy.

Bonfig's focus also includes how to capitalize on AI to help customers, according to an interview he gave to CNBC. The smaller store approach, with locations from 12,000 to 15,000 square feet, is aimed at regions where a full-size store, which typically is between 12,000 to 25,000 square feet, can't be established.

"What we're finding is that there are markets that we just can't be in with a traditional size Best Buy store, but they're markets that absolutely make sense for Best Buy from a reach perspective," Bonfig told CNBC.

Improving the customer experience will include upgrading TV product options and embracing AI. The company is investing in products such as Meta glasses, according to CNBC.

"Agentic commerce and commerce through AI platforms is happening today," Bonfig told CNBC. "We're seeing traffic there, and we want to make sure that the Best Buy experience is represented."
