A good majority of U.K.-based consumers (58%) will spend the same or more this Black Friday, according to Emarsys research, compared to Black Friday in 2019, and 30% expect to spend less.

Over a third, 37%, will make a particular effort to seek out deals this year compared with previous years, with 22% having deliberately been saving money in advance to take advantage of the big day, according to a press release on the research.

"While Covid-19 has battered the global economy, consumers are understandably going to want to jump on any deals they can. Therefore, Black Friday this year is going to be a welcome relief for retailers, many of whom have seen revenue streams dry up and warehousing costs rocket," Alex Timlin, SVP of verticals at Emarsys, said in the release.
