The National Federation of the Blind and three Maryland residents are suing Walmart claiming the company's self-checkouts violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.
In addition, according to a report by the Baltimore Sun, the lawsuit claims a Walmart employee stole money from a blind customer who asked the employee for help using a debit card. The employee allegedly selected the $40 cash back — which the customer had not requested — and then pocketed the money.
The theft was discovered and the money turned over by the staff member, whose employment has since been terminated by Walmart. The company told the Sun that it does not discriminate against shoppers.
