Holiday season shoppers won't just be tossing items in the wagon for family and friends. A good portion, 58 percent, will be scouting out discount items for themselves and they’ll be spending more on themselves than last year.
In fact, consumers will spend less on gifts to give than on gifts to keep, according to a CNBC report, which cites a NRF study. Consumers will spend an average of $139.61 on their own gifts, a 4 percent bump over last year.
"This is a trend that's growing strongly," said Mark Mathews, NRF vice president of research development and industry analysis told CNBC. "It's increased almost 50 percent over the last 10 years."
