Delta to test face scanning kiosks for checking baggage

May 16, 2017

Delta will test a face scanning kiosk for baggage check at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this summer, according to CNN.

The machine uses facial recognition technology to match a passenger’s identity to their passport photos. The passenger tags their own bags, pays the fee and drops their luggage on the conveyor belt.

Passengers without passports still require a Delta agent to confirm their identities.

The company invested $600,000 in the four kiosks it plans to test.

The company expects kiosks to move twice the number of passengers per hour through check-in.
