EC sets privacy requirements for RFID tags

PC World: The European Commission Tuesday set a code of conduct for companies using RFID tags that it hopes will safeguard citizens' privacy and allow the quick rollout of the new technology.

Among the requirements of the code of conduct is the automatic deactivation of tags at the point of sale once purchase is completed. It also calls for signage to clearly indicate when a product contains a tag.
