Improving real-time delivery is the focus of Arthur Valdez's leadership role at Target as the ex-Amazon executive strives to help Target catch up when it comes to online commerce.
Valdez, Target's chief supply chain and logistics officer, is directing a huge revamp of warehouses, trailer trucks and inventory management systems, reports the Star Tribune, all in the name of improving Target's delivery system when it comes to speed, accuracy and efficiency.
In an interview with the Tribune, the Target leader describes typical brick-and-mortar supply chain as a "slow moving elephant."
"Speed matters,” the 47-year-old told the Tribune. "We’ve got to be faster than the elephant. … Where I spend my time today is helping problem-solve how to become the gazelle," said Valdez who spent 16 years at Amazon.
