An article in the New York Times takes a look at the "few scrappy Davids" that are clinging to their video stores, staring down the goliaths that are redbox, Netflix and the like.
Los Angeles-based Vidiots, for instance, opened up a classroom-type space where it hosts classes in film studies and spoken-word events. Elsewhere in L.A., CineFile Video hosts stand-up comedians and performance artists.
And at Brooklyn-based Videology, the owners are dipping their toes into foodservice waters by opening a café and bar, and hosting movie trivia nights.
