Food is a big part of summer retail activity, reveals study

When it comes to retail spending in the summer months it's all about food and consumers still prefer the physical retail environment overall.
Those are top findings from a Lightspeed survey on summer shopping and dining habits. The survey polled 2,000 consumers in the U.S. and Canada.
Other key findings include:
- Over half of North Americans spend up to $250 per summer shopping trip with 53% of Americans dropping between $50 to $250 per shopping excursion
- Nearly 60% of North Americans stated food quality is their most important consideration for a positive dining experience.
- Americans (42%) spend the most money on food during the summer, followed by clothing and apparel, supplies for hobbies and home furnishings.
