According to the Los Angeles Times, German publisher Taschen is making its mark with high-end bookstores, even in the midst of a down economy.
The publisher has opened several retail stores selling large-scale art books with price tags in the thousands — most of which have opened during a time when more than a dozen independently owned bookstores have closed in Southern California — and the manager of two Los Angeles-area stores says sales are up from last year by double digits.
