August 18, 2009 by James Bickers — Editor, Networld Alliance

V3 reports a new RFID release from ruggedized computing manufacturer Getac. Aimed at retail, warehousing and manufacturing, the system is "a hybrid of active and passive RFID technologies" that can work at both short and long ranges.

The system can track items and provide a range of sensor information such as temperature and motion, and offers a management component to help streamline logistics processes and register alerts if an anomaly is detected, the firm said.

The company is also offering a middleware kit aimed at making integration quicker and easier.
