Columbus Dispatch: Recognizing the financial pinch some of their customers are feeling and the strain that might put on customer loyalty, grocery chains are putting out the message that they understand. Along with discounting food products, they are offering a variety of promotions meant to help balance household budgets — all in the context of rising food and fuel prices.
Wal-Mart, for its part, recently launched a Web site, www.makeyourdollarstretch.com, designed to help consumers "stretch the dollar in challenging economic times," said company spokeswoman Melissa O'Brien.
